Highlights of Educational Achievements

Somali Cultural Center Sisters praying
In spite of the short time of the Center’s existence and its limited resources, (with Allah’s help and blessing) we made a commendable achievement. In order to learn the Qur’an you have to learn the Arabic language, the language which the Qur’an is written. After that, the students are taught the Holly Qur’an and its proper pronunciation at early age. The Center has performed a number of cultural and educational inroads in Washington metropolitan Area that include:

  • Enrolling more than 130 students who learned the reading and writing the Arabic language in record six months period.
  • Taking part of the Qur’an recitation competition held at Dar-Alhijra Mosque in Falls Church, and Saudi Islamic Academy in Fairfax, where our students still hold the top three positions in the last three consecutive years. In particular, a Qur’an recitation competition participated by Islamic schools from North America held in 2007, the SCC scored top position. Special mention is given to student Eman Faris who came at the top of Qur’an recites.
  • The following are remarkable the first wave of Qur’an graduate students in 06-07

1 Ahmed Hassan Mohamed 16 years old
2 Abdullahi Abdu-Rahman 13 years old
3 Zakaria Abdallah Ali 10 years old
4 Eman Ali Farsi 13 years old
5 Ahmad Mohammed Ahmad 15 years old
6 Abdullahi Ahmad 12 years old
7 Muna Hussein 16 years old
8 Abdullahi Wardere 13 years old
9 Faisal Hussein 12 years old
11 Naima Ahmed 12 years old
12 Najma Ahmed 10 years old
10 Nimo Abdi 22 years old

Some of the above mentioned Qur’an graduates served as Imams and led Traweeh prayers in the past Ramadan years in a number of mosques in the Washington Metropolitan Area. At this time there are 19 students who are on the verge of completing the Holly Qur’an with in the academic year of 2007.
